John M. Cox joined Sweeney & Greene LLP in 2010. As an associate at Sweeney & Greene, Mr. Cox has advised clients on religious, non-profit, and political issues, at the judicial and administrative levels, assisted in the negotiation and closing of bond and debt refinance transactions for various Catholic organizations, and drafted proposed federal legislation.
Prior to joining Sweeney & Greene, Mr. Cox was a Project Manager for Civitas Advisors in Sacramento, California. At Civitas, Mr. Cox worked on behalf of property, business and tourism districts and private land owners. In this role, Mr. Cox was responsible for preparing and negotiating district management plans and proposition 218 ballots, navigating the municipal approval process, at the staff, commissioner and elected levels, and maintaining outreach efforts with local business and property owners.
Before joining Civitas, Mr. Cox served as an appointee to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger throughout his first term in office. As an assistant to the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, he managed a myriad of issues associated with the day-to-day operations of the Governor’s Office. Mr. Cox also participated in the planning and coordination of the five international trade missions to Israel, Japan, China, Mexico and Canada. Each trade mission served to connect California business owners with partners in the various countries.
Mr. Cox earned his J.D. from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California, and his Bachelors in Economics from Radford University in Radford, Virginia.
Mr. Cox is admitted to practice in California state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, and is a member of the California State Bar, the Sacramento County Bar, and the National Diocesan Attorneys Association.
